One of the cameras we now use is the Canon EOS Mark III. This camera offers increased speed and power as well as ISO sensitivity and brand new noise reduction options made possible by the DIGIC5+ Image Processor. This sensitivity makes for higher quality recording in low-light situations.

Higher speed of the DIGIC5+ brings it from 3.9 to 6.0 frames per second. The processor's 14-bit depth makes possible excellent, smooth tonal gradations and high overall image quality.

The camera's CMOS sensor has been reformatted which enhances the superb image-capturing traits of the previous model.

Audio improvements are significant. It also features HDMI broadcast audio out.

It now supports continuous recording times up to 29 minutes, 59 seconds with time code and the following formats:

1920 x 1080 – 30 fps (25 fps if set to PAL)
1920 x 1080 – 24 fps
1280 x 720 – 60 fps (50 fps if set to PAL)*
640 x 480 – 30 fps (25 fps if set to PAL)

Headphone socket on a DSLR:
The new headphone socket for monitoring audio (a single-pin, stereo connector) makes audio recording easier. You can also view audio levels on the LCD during recording.

The EOS 5D Mark III also features a clean uncompressed (8 bit) 4:2:2 HDMI output. This recent upgrade is extremely important for us for recording edit ready ProRes422 .MOV files on an outboard recorder like the AJA Ki-Pro.
